Orange picking party

My next door neighbor has a beautiful orange tree that spills into my yard and, with his permission, we pick the oranges that are on our side of the yard and because in my house everything turns into a party, I decided to do an orange picking party!

I actually asked my neighbor if I could style this in his yard, keep in mind that I barely know the guy, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take pictures of his beautiful tree. He very happily agreed and let me spend all morning in his yard.

For this party I wanted to keep it simple (and cheap!) because let’s face it, not everyone has hundreds of dollars for a party and when there’s no particular reason to do it nobody wants to spend too much money. This whole thing was only $25, I used many things that I had and plenty of oranges from the tree.

To start, I used our outdoor rug that has lots of orange to bring more color the floor, it’s from World Market (it’s from last year, but I linked a similar one below). I found these amazing orange napkins that I wanted to use in a fun way, so I opened them up and used them as a placemat, the best way to do this is open the napkin and tape it to the table so it doesn’t fly away.

I paired everything with orange plates and wooden cutlery. I always like to add cutlery in different ways instead of putting it next to the plates, so this time I used a small white envelope, added a “Let’s get picking” tag (printable below) to tie in the theme.

To bring some orange to the top I added this beautiful orange bunting from Jolity and co and cut one of them to add to the bar cart. I also decided to do a simple but cute flower arrangement with oranges from the tree and Trader Joe’s flowers, these were only $4 per arrangement!

For the bar cart, I used another flower arrangement, I also filled a candy container with oranges and set it on top of a clear cake stand to give it more height. For food, I got some orange cranberry scones from Whole Foods and candied oranges from Trader Joe’s (those were $1.99, you can’t beat that!). For an extra orangey look I added one of the pieces of the garland to the top tray.

Hope I inspired you to celebrate the small things in life and realize that beautiful parties don’t have to cost an arm and a leg.
